A Bacteriological of Make-up Tools Used in Calabar Metropolis, Cross River State, Nigeria

Sharing of make-up tools by multiple users is a possible means transfer fungal infections, such as dermatophytoses. With abrasion on the skin, it for HIV, Hepatitis B virus, Spirochaetes and other pathogens to be carried via contaminated tools, from one person another. Using sterilized swab sticks, surfaces (sponge brush) were cleansed. Materials deposited sticks cultured aerobically Chocolate Cysteine Lactose Electrolyte Deficient Agar plates overnight at 37oC. After aerobic incubation, culture read macroscopically growth. Bacterial isolates subjected microscopic examination using Gram’s staining technique biochemical tests (e.g. coagulase, catalase, oxidase, motility). Results showed that predominant bacterial growths obtained Staphylococcus aureus (51.5%), Coagulase-negative (25.8%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (6.2%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (16.5%). The different genera bacteria harvested brushes (66.2%) sponges (85.7%). There was no growth 33.8% 14.3% respectively. statistical difference in terms between two (brush sponge) sampled (P>0.05). This study has shown there moderate possibility organisms (both skin flora pathogens) another, through our local communities. It hereby recommended health education talks should out regularly among beauticians encourage them use disposable with disinfectants.
